RB Leipzig has been eliminated from the Champions League. The Red Bulls lost 7-0 to Manchester City on Tuesday. The Premier League champions demolished Leipzig with five goals from Erling Haaland (22nd, 24th, 45th, 53rd and 57th) as well as goals from Ilkay Gündogan (49th) and Kevin de Bruyne (90th).

Much is explained after the  decision on the spot that led to the first goal. Slavko Vincic pointed to the spot after his VAR team called him to the monitor.

In the video zone, Vincic decided that defender Benjamin Henrichs played the ball. Contact was minimal and the decision to award a penalty will deepen the debate on how to use VAR.

The referee returned to the limelight shortly after Manchester City's second goal. Man City goalkeeper Ederson ran to pick up the ball and then met Konrad Laimer without touching it. Vincic decided to continue playing and later showed demonstrator Timo Werner a yellow card.

Ederson certainly should have received a yellow card and Leipzig were awarded a free kick. Whether these decisions will have any effect after Leipzig's path is questionable at best. Man City, if fit, could be one of the top two or three  club sides in the world.

But you could say Leipzig  lost their collective advantage after decisions by two referees and were then  quickly beaten by City.

No wonder Leipzig weren't happy with the referee's decision after the game."I spoke to the referee again and he said he didn't see the handball but  VAR warned him so he went to check the replay and awarded a penalty," Henrichs said after the game .

"It wasn't a penalty for me,  but when you lose 7-0 there's not much to say." However, Leipzig  coach Marco Rose quickly dismissed the referee's game-influencing decisions  and blamed himself and his team. "There were two reasons why we failed today," said Rose.

"One was our aggressiveness in  set pieces and the other was that we couldn't find a solution against the pressure when we had the ball.In this respect, I also accept responsibility because  I may not have given the team enough information. We never got into the game. The result is really unbearable.”

Rose also hinted that there will be consequences after the embarrassing result at  Etihad. "Man City were too strong for us today and deserved more than the win," said Roses after the game."Of course we don't want to put up with that in the future. We want to develop further.”
