Raquel Welch, a veteran actress who rose to fame in the 1960s movies, Million Years BC. and Fantastic Voyage have both passed away, according to a statement from his manager Steve Sauer. 

 

He was 82 years old. Welchs died Wednesday morning in Los Angeles after a "brief illness," the statement said. The actress, who has appeared in more than 70 films and on television, began as the announcer for the Hollywood Palace and had a small role in  Elvis Presley's 1964 Roustabout. 

Two years later, her career took off  with the release of the science fiction film Fantastic Journey, about a small team of scientists  and  a critically ill man who is injected into his body; and One Million Years BC. 

a prehistoric drama in which Raquel Welch played the cavewoman Loana, and photos of her in a furry bikini formed the basis of the film's marketing campaign and established Welch as an international sex symbol.(The poster later became the focus of the acclaimed film The Shawshank Redemption.') 

 

Raquel Welch's career in television and film spanned decades. In the late 1960s, Welch played many leading roles, including the western Bandolero! and 100 Rifles, the latter notable for a controversial interracial love scene starring former soccer star Jim Brown. 

 

1967, after the instant success of Fantastic Voyage and One Million Years B.C.Welch played the lead role of Lilian Lust in Bedazzled, a film  later remade in 2000, starring Elizabeth Hurley and Brendan Fraser. 

 

The Chicago-born actress played Constance de Bonacieux in the 1973 film The Three Musketeers. Raquel Welch won a  Golden Globe  for Best Actress and reprized her role as de Bonacieux in the 1974 sequel The Four Musketeers: Milady's Revenge.

Welch's other notable roles  include starring in the 1970s film Myra Breckinridge, in which she played a transgender actress. 

Throughout the 1990s, Welch appeared in various sitcoms, including "Seinfeld," where she played herself as a tribute to the legendary diva she had become. Raquel Welch also appeared in Spin City, Evening Shade, and Sabrina the Teenage Witch. 

Welch's iconic roles continued into the turn of the century. The Hollywood legend appeared in the 2001 film Legally Blonde opposite Reese Witherspoon, playing Ms.Windham Vandermark, ex-wife of the late Hayworth Windham, whose murder she helps solve with Elle Woods Witherspoon. 

 

As Welch gained momentum, the nickname "sex symbol" continued to circulate. "Being a sex symbol is very flattering and helps you succeed in business, but only to a point," Raquel Welch told Cinema.com after the release of his 2001 film Tortilla Soup, adding that this is "confuses people's imagination". 

They just don't see that you can do anything else.Welch's most recent professional recognition came in 2017 when the icon played Rosa, the stepmother of a single father, on UPtv's Date My Dad. 

Raquel Welch also pursued a business career that included jewelry, skin care products, and wigs. 

The star is survived by two children, son Damon Welch and  daughter Tahnee Welch, according to a statement from her manager.
